What is a faith mission?
Where does it get its money?
How much are the missionaries "paid"?
What happens if a supporter doesn't contribute what he said he
would?
Is a home office person a real missionary-Why isn't he paid a
salary?
These are some of the questions people ask about the finances of a faith mission. The very idea is foreign to many people.
Omega is a faith mission&emdash;dependent, under God, on the faithfulness of the Lord's people. The organization does not salary any of its members. Each person looks with faith to God to supply for his/ her material needs. The normal channels through which God supplies for these needs are the faithful gifts of churches and individuals. This link blesses both the missionary and the one who gives.
Financial needs for a missionary reflect the cost of living in the area in which the individual is serving. They are reviewed at least once a year. Costs of food, housing, medical care, children's education, and field travel, employment of helpers, etc., are included.
There is no guarantee that a missionary will receive the full amount of his/her needs in a given month. The fact is: if someone does not send in his/her regular gift, the missionary is short that amount that month.
All members of Omega have agreed that 10 percent of all contributions will be assessed to help cover general operating expenses. In this way, everyone shares in paying for office supplies, rent, telephone, postage, etc.
Missionaries working in the home office are just as vital to the work as those on the field, and like field missionaries, depend entirely on gifts for their support&emdash;and expenses are often even higher than on the field.
Our national workers in Omega Philippines Outreach are supported, as offerings come in, at the level of the average rural school teacher in the Philippines. In addition to support for individual national workers, we also provide funding for special projects in the Philippines.
Project expenses are funded in a variety of ways: through faith promises, special project giving, and similar special gifts.
Because Omega is an approved non-profit organization, gifts to it are tax deductible. While the tax deduction is a real benefit, most donors express their joy in terms of being part of the missionary team.
The strengths of this type of financial system are three-fold. First, the donor knows exactly how his/ her gift is being used. Second, there is a personal tie between the person giving and the Omega member. And third, the personalized giving leads to personalized prayer. Involvement in a faith mission is a blessing to everyone.
You can have a part in giving the Gospel of Jesus Christ to some of the world's unreached billions. "PARTNERS IN MISSION" are a vital part of the Omega Team.
Consider these ways in which you may share as a PARTNER IN MISSION.
