The Ministry in Southeast Asia

PHILIPPINES

The Republic of the Philippines is comprised of over 7,000 islands with an area of 115,831 sq.mi. with a population of over 77 million. The official languages are Filipino (Tagalog) and English, though a large number speak Cebuano. There are are 168 languages and dialects still spoken by various tribal groups.

Omega began in the Philippines, with an emphasis on translation and literacy work, and have gradually branched out into othere areas of ministry, depending upon local needs. Our present emphasis is on the southernmost island, Mindanao, a predominantly Moslem area. The entire ministry in the Philippines is carried on by a national sister organization to Omega, registered with the Philippines government, Omega Philippines Outreach (OPO). OPO has an all-Filipino leadership, and a board of directors elected by and composed largely of Filipinos.
